THE CLIENT CHALLENGE
Conserve-A-Watt Lighting, a wholesale commercial lighting distributor with operations in Denver and Salt Lake City, was acquired in 2024 by an entrepreneurial CEO who saw meaningful growth potential in both markets. The company wholesales lighting equipment and provides installation and maintenance services.
The business had been led by its original owner for more than 40 years and was underperforming in several areas, including technology, business processes, talent, and leadership capacity. The CEO was learning about a completely new industry while also evaluating whether the existing team could grow with the company.
The central question became: Could Conserve-A-Watt develop the leadership capacity needed to modernize the business, integrate an acquisition, and support the next stage of growth?
Our Approach
Agilitas Consulting partnered with CAW in the areas of leadership assessment and coaching. The work focused on several interconnected dimensions:
CEO Coaching & Advisory Support
Provided a confidential thought partner as the CEO learned a new industry, assessed inherited talent, and clarified which leaders could grow with the business.
Leadership Assessment
Conducted 360 evaluations involving the CEO, his investment partner, peers, and direct reports, along with self-assessments across 25 leadership effectiveness competencies.
Individual Development Planning
Translated assessment results into practical coaching priorities, development gaps, and monthly topics for each leader.
Monthly Coaching Cadence
Supported each leader with structured coaching sessions, targeted reading materials, and homework designed to apply new leadership behaviors in the business.
Agilitas Consulting was initially engaged to coach the CEO as he learned the business, evaluated the leadership team, and worked through resistance to change. After six months, the engagement expanded to include ongoing monthly coaching for the Directors of Sales and Operations, two key leaders responsible for functions that directly drive business performance.

WHY IT MATTERS
For Conserve-A-Watt, this work helped connect leadership development with the practical demands of post-acquisition growth. Rather than treating coaching as a stand-alone development activity, Agilitas Consulting helped the CEO use leadership assessment and coaching as tools for evaluating talent, building capacity, and preparing the business to scale.
Bottom line
Agilitas Consulting helped Conserve-A-Watt strengthen leadership capacity, support key functional leaders, and prepare the organization for post-acquisition growth.
